Home Secretary "Dr" John Reid is promising 8,000 new prison places in a bid to ease overcrowding in Britain's current clinkies. Plaid want one in North Wales, but this somewhat unorthdox suggestion from 'Jon', printed on the 'Text Maniacs' page of today's Daily Star - a forum for the barely-literate to share their views on current affairs - suggests an interesting new use for South Wales' mines:
Disused coal mines could be used as ready made jails with low staffing levels. only 1 person required to operate the cage which sends them down till their time is up. jon
Since this has been aired in a tabloid newspaper - and that increasingly seems to be enough for "Dr" Reid to introduce something as policy - don't rule it out...
