Is there any truth in the rumour doing the rounds that, in the run up to May's Assembly Election, Labour AMs have been told all press releases must be cleared not only by the party's crack press corps in Cardiff, but also signed off by its media operations team in its Victoria Street HQ, London?
No idea. I did ask my comrade in Labour's Welsh press team yesterday, but he hasn't got back to me. Perhaps he is checking what the line is with London. Surely in these days of "clear red water" it can't be true?
PS Does it, indeed, even apply to MPs? It seems unlikely the Malcolm Tuckers of this world would give Kevin Brennan MP the go-ahead to have his press corps issue a release announcing his brother is to play Harold Wilson in a new play at the National Theatre, as they did yesterday...
Update: A response comes from Labour's Welsh HQ: "That is absolutely not the case".
