All quiet on the eastern front

For the uninitiated, journalists no longer garner information about the latest police raids, drug busts and robber-rumbling from chatting to the friendly neighbourhood bobby in a smoke-filled pub. These days, we have to go through their press offices more often than not - or, at the weekend, phone up their 'Newslines' for recorded information giving full details of what the force has been up to over the past 24 hours.

Clearly, then, it's been a quiet day or so in Gwent Police's area, given the message currently being given out on their newsline.

"Under key one," says the recorded voice, "anti-social behaviour operation proves successful in Rhymney.

"Under key two, Gwent Police host all-Wales quiz final".

That's it. What a haven of calm Gwent must be!
