The hero next door

According to the advance copy of Adam Price's speech to the Plaid conference this afternoon handed out to Her Majesty's press corps, this is what the party's elections supremo was due to say:

"Ours is a message of hope and opportunity based on the idea that we are all in this together. People of rural Wales and our towns and cities, all colours, all creeds, the farmers and the factory workers, the people who teach the children, who drive the lorries, who stack the shelves, who nurse the sick, who clean the streets, who put out the fires and who police the streets."

Yet when Adam actually delivered the speech, somebody stuck out like a sore thumb. HE MISSED OUT THE LINE ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO PUT OUT FIRES.

As such, and knowing exactly how these things work, I've decided to save Labour's press officers a job and written them up the following press release to send out to all and sundry tomorrow morning:

PLAID POLL CHIEF DELIVERS SNUB TO WELSH FIREFIGHTERS "PARTY MUST APOLOGISE" - LABOUR

WELSH Labour today called on Plaid Cymru to apologise immediately after its election chief, Adam Price, delivered a snub to Welsh firefighters.
Mr Price had been due to pay tribute to the brave work firefighters do throughout Wales at his party's conference in Caernarfon yesterday. But he chose to belittle their work, leaving them out while mentioning other professions.
A Welsh Labour spokesman said: "This is typical of Plaid Cymru, which is sneering down its nose at our brave men and women in blue and yellow.
"It may come as a surprise to Mr Price but hundreds of people in Wales have decided to put their lives on the line as firefighters. Not everyone has the opportunity to become an MP or work for an economic thinktank.
"This statement tells you everything you need to know about Plaid Cymru. Fortunately, the Welsh pulbic know they have a choice on May 3. Recognition of firefighters with Labour, or a return to missing them out of speeches by the Tories and their Plaid cohorts.
"Plaid Cymru should immediately apologise."

Go on Labour. You know you can't resist it...
