The Sunday Telegraph will tomorrow launch a new campaign to celebrate Britishness. Called 'Call Yourself British' (see what they did there?), it aims to combat what they see as an inexorable drift towards a split between England and Scotland. This they aim to tackle head-on with a "series of initiatives to raise awareness". Iain Martin, group executive editor of Telegraph Media Group, explains:
Today the Telegraph launches a patriotic campaign – Call Yourself British – with a very simple aim: to celebrate Britishness and stimulate projects which will weaken those who want to tear this great partnership asunder. The risk to the Union is not of immediate break-up, but of steadily drifting apart. Alex Salmond, the Nationalist First Minister of Scotland, is working in every way he can to divide England and Scotland, hoping that eventually Unionists on both sides of the border will simply give up. That must not happen. Separation is not inevitable. Our shared history, the wonder of our island story and our prospects for a brighter future together mean the case for Britain must be made with more confidence. That is what the Telegraph intends to do. We hope that all who have Britain’s best interests at heart will do the same.
You know, I have this nagging feeling they've forgotten about another nation that is just as much a part of Britain here. But - and this is the annoying bit - I can't quite put my finger on what it is.

A little bird told me there's even a fourth part of the UK where the majority regard themselves as British....
